How to visit Chikmagalur
Chikmagalur or Chikkamagalur is a city and headquarters of Chikmagalur district of the Indian state of Karnataka. Located in the foothills of Mullayanagiri Peak, Western ghats the place offers many picturesque tourist attraction sites. It is mostly visited due to its cool, tropical climate and located in the hilly region is added advantage.
Chikamagalur is known for coffee estates where many coffee plantations can be seen. It is famous for coffee and is called malnad coffee. Chikmagalur is often a day trip from the capital city Bangalore, however, people spend around 2-3 days here just to enjoy the serene weather. It has many scenic tourist destinations that can be visited nearby such as Baba Budangiri, Kudremukha, Mullayanagiri, Sringeri etc all these regions are located in Western ghat belt and all experience cool tropical weather.
Located in foothills, around 1090m above sea level the city experience the highest temperature of 11-20C during winters and 25-32C in the summertime. The main source of water is supplied by The Yagachi River which gets connected to Kaveri River down south.
You need to travel via road or railways to get into Chikmagalur where it is located around 250km from Bangalore and 160km from Mangalore. The nearest airport is Mangalore.
